Meet the PeopleByOur side
Our Story
Picture this, it's Jan 2011, a new website called "chatroulette" goes viral. An 18 year old Abena decides "Why not, lemme see what this is about". After skipping multiple people she lands on a handsome, young, long-haired fella... and skips him as well! Second time he comes around she skips him again. And a third time! At this point, it's becoming unusual; she's never seen the same person more than once, let alone THREE times!
So, she decides to strike up a conversation, which goes really well! So well in fact, they exchange Skype information (remember that??) and speak for another 2 hours there. They learn they live an 8hr drive from one another (her in Northern VA, he in Upstate NY).
...She proceeded to not call back for 2 months. To be fair, he had a lot going on too. Both of them had just started their second semester of their first year of college, so their attentions were elsewhere.
In March, Spencer messages her out of the blue and they strike a conversation again. Over the next 4 months, from 400 miles away they shared their feelings about life, beliefs and spirituality, their goals, and their challenges with and love of their families. They realize more and more that their approaches to life significantly align and that they're able to learn new ways from one another. As their conversations grow from weekly to daily to hourly, they both feel their lives expanding the more they share. They aren't separate, the distance doesn't matter, they are united.
At this time Spencer didn't even have a cell phone, he used his iPod touch to message with and FaceTime Abena whenever he found wifi, driving his hand-me-down 1996 Chevy Lumina the whole way down to Virginia. Finally, after parking at the garage near the hotel, before even checking into the hotel, Spencer saw her walking towards him. The whole world fell away and it was just us, eyes locked, running to one another. Our first hug felt like the true beginning; the big bang, flowers blossoming, a volcano erupting, clouds raining, thunder striking, a stampede trampling.
Now, dozens of family trips, lots of couple trips, 3 degrees, and 7 major interstate moves later we've never been closer. Every day I journey more and more deeply in love with you Abena. .
We are so excited and thankful that you will be an essential part of our wedding, the uniting of our two families, and the beginning of new lives to come. We love you all and can't wait to celebrate with you.
